Remember this photo from last week? I told you to keep an eye out for a reappearance. So now, you may be wondering how a new fabric purchase could be involved in a refashion. Simple, dear Watson… I bought these fabrics in February this year and have since made one item that I subsequently recreated as another item because I loathed the first one so much.

I really really really wanted to make a Gathered Rectangle Skirt and use an Elastic Waistband, just like all those cool skirts you have been seeing in the stores. I was so inspired after spending more than a few hours perusing Pinterest… The skirts looked so simple and easy to make… But when I was finished sewing, I realized that my attempt had gone horribly horribly wrong. Mama Made: Dashiki Top

Way back in February, when I was still toying with the idea to start this whole blogging adventure and I was getting even more convinced to take on this sewing thing much more seriously, a letter came home from my son’s primary school indicating that they would be celebrating African Heritage Awareness Day with plenty of activities centred around this theme.

In the letter, parents were being encouraged to not only let their child participate in the activities, but let them wear traditional African styles and clothing to help the school in this cultural immersion endeavour. To be honest, when I first read the letter, all I got from it was “woo hoo, I can so easily make a dashiki for my son to wear!

And with that inspiration, I headed straight to Abed’s in Sheraton Mall the very next evening after I picked up my son from school.

BurdaStyle, Singer, and why Cadbury Fruit & Nut cures all ails!

Yesterday, I received my weekly e-mail newsletter from Burdastyle, and got sooooooooooo excited when I saw an advertisement for their newest competition, Summer Sewing Challenge: Win a Sewing Machine from SINGER!

When I spied that ever so sexy vintage designed but totally modern Singer One  sewing machine as the prize, I was ready to hit my fabric stash and get sewing!!! It may not be as fancy with all the stuff that my Singer Fashion Mate 6160 can do, but the Singer One is too SEXY mannnnnnn!!!!!
