Abbey 3.0 Birthday Sewing Challenge

Please wait. Abbey Version 3.0 is downloading…

Yup… In 17 days I will be 30 years old. THIRTY. And to celebrate I have committed myself to my own Me Made Challenge.

I want to sew at least eight (8) wardrobe pieces for myself for my 30th birthday. That’s the plan. I figure that I really need to do some actual functional stuff for me that I like and what better reason than my birthday right?

So here’s my birthday sewing wishlist:

Abbey 3.0 Wishlist

I know that the list is a bit ambitious, especially with me teaching a class 2 nights a week, but I’m going to try to tackle if not finish them all.

Wish me luck! It’s going to be a busy sewing month! So click on the button over there on the right side for the rest of this birthday adventure!

It’s OCTOBER!!!! Think Pink and Birthday Plans!

Source: http://mystorythusfar.blogspot.com/2011/10/go-pink_18.html

Yup, it’s October!!!!!! And I’m sure you have noticed that my usual purple blog is now pink. It’s going to stay pink for the entire month in support of breast cancer awareness.

Here in Barbados, the Breast Screening Programme of the Barbados Cancer Society has plenty activities planned for Pink Ribbon Week, which will be from October 1-7 this year. The most known activity will of course be the sale of pink ribbons at various locations across the island. Any donation you can make will aid in the purchase of a much-needed ultrasound machine for the Mammography Centre located at the Society’s headquarters here in Barbados.

Hook’d: Navy Brimmed Slouchy

Do you crochet? If you do, then Ravelry is the most awesome website you could ever have found! I remember when I first discovered it’s existence last September and thinking, where have you been all my life? And there are thousands and thousands of free and ready to purchase patterns for crocheters and knitters!!! It’s like our version of a candy store!! There’s even a yarn database so you can even covet more yarn than you ever possible dreamed of owning!

Ravelry is where I found the very easy to follow and reasonably priced patterns of ScarFanatic on Ravelry (as well as Etsy, where she sells her finished objects). She presently has 31 designs available on Ravelry for purchase, which showcase a variety of different styled hats and jewellery.

Burda’s Simply Beautiful… or not…

“Simple Beauty”… that’s the name of the new 7-piece BurdaStyle pattern collection released this week and it’s some 70’s throwback stuff, that I’m really not feeling at all. Maybe it’s the sad colour choices or that awful blue wallpaper or the granny styling of the models. But I’m honestly disappointed again this week. I mean, how’s a girl supposed to be inspired to sew greatness with these blahhhh looking photos???

The best part about Burda though, is that there is always one glimmer of hope… for this particular collection, there were at least two items that caught my eye, bringing those familiar sewing fuzzies to my tummy…

Yup, this outfit is some kind of understated beauty. Continue reading “Burda’s Simply Beautiful… or not…”

Homemade: Apple Pumpkin Pancakes

Apple Pumpkin Pancakes

My son likes pancakes. No, seriously… He likes pancakes. A lot. He would eat them every single day for breakfast, if I let him. Which for him is in itself very awesome because the child don’t like to eat… as a general rule, it seems. You can imagine that making meals for him is usually a task, because to someone who likes to cook like his mama, there’s nothing more upsetting than seeing a barely-picked-at plate and then having to *shudder* “force feed”.

Breakfast is especially trying. You know you want your children to go to school  with nice full tummies so they can focus and learn well. And then you get a child like mine, who not only isn’t fussy about eating, but is a picky eater to boot!

But he does love him some pancakes! So whenever I have the time to make them on mornings, I make sure that I increase his nutritional intake by incorporating some kind of vegetable or fruit whenever I make the batter. It’s also a win-win situation for me as well, because I don’t have as noticeable an allergic type reaction to the flour when I add in the extra healthy goodness. So take that, you crippling sinus you!
